China is the World's third largest country in area. Only Russia and Canada are Larger. China's land is as varied as it is vast. It ranges from sub arctic regions in the north to tropical lowlands in the south and from fertile plains in the east to deserts in the west. China can be divided into eight major land regions. They are (1)Tibetan Highlands, (2) Xinjiang-Mongolian Uplands, (3) Inner Mongolian Border Uplands, (4) Eastern Highlands, (5) Eastern Lowlands, (6) Central Uplands, (7) Sichuan Basin, and (8) Southern Uplands.
